How we started selling baby cots

My husband lost his job a couple of years ago. He had been working in a furniture factory for fifteen years when he was unexpectedly laid-off. We did not know what to do at first. I could still keep working as a shop assistant and he could go on looking for a new position elsewhere, but we felt that that was actually a good opportunity to start something together. We wanted to open a company aimed at parents of young children. There had just been a little baby boom in our country so why not start making something for kids, we thought. My husband was an experienced carpenter so we decided to make baby cots. It was not really complicated and he could teach me some basics really easily. At first there were only two of us. We bought some good quality wood at a reasonable price and soon designed our own models. We visited lots of furniture shopping centres to see what the trends were. We also read some regulations connected with child safety. We did not want to start manufacturing something that would not be within norms. We really wanted to be regarded as a trusted company. The baby cots idea soon turned out to be a huge success. We had our website designed and some catalogues printed out to broaden the customer base.
